Terms of Use

Last updated October 31, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and CanDev Agency ("Stardo", "we", "us"), which makes and runs Stardo: the website at stardo.app, the Stardo apps for iPhone and Android, and everything they connect to (together, the "Service"). Please read them. Our Privacy Policy (stardo.app/privacy) explains what we do with your information and is part of these Terms.

1. Agreeing to these Terms

By creating an account, or by using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Stardo.

  • 13 or older: you can make your own account. If you're under the age of majority where you live (18 or 19 in most of Canada), please read these Terms with a parent or guardian. They agree to them for you too.
  • Under 13 (under 14 in Quebec): you can only use an account a parent or a teacher made for you, with a parent's consent. You can't sign up yourself.
  • Parents who make or link a child's account agree to these Terms for that child, and are responsible for how the child's account is used.
  • Teachers who make accounts for students confirm that their school allows it and that the school has any consent it needs from parents.
  • Schools and boards that buy a licence also have a separate agreement with us. If it says something different from these Terms, the school agreement wins for that school's accounts.

2. Your account

  • Give us true information, keep it up to date, and keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
  • One account per person. Don't sign up for someone else (except a parent or teacher making an account as described above), and don't share your account.
  • Tell us right away at support@stardo.app if you think someone else has got into your account.
  • If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, their terms also apply to that sign-in.

3. Using Stardo honestly

Stardo is here to help you organise your school work and learn. Nova, our study buddy, explains, quizzes, outlines and checks your work. It is not there to do graded work for you.

  • Follow your school's rules on homework, tests and the use of AI. You are responsible for the work you hand in.
  • Don't hand in Nova's answers as your own where your school says you can't.

4. Things you must not do

  • Break the law, or help anyone else break it.
  • Upload or share anything you don't have the right to share, or anything hateful, harassing, sexual, violent, threatening, or that puts anyone's safety or privacy at risk. Never share private information about another person without their permission.
  • Bully, impersonate, or mislead anyone, including by pretending to be a parent, teacher, school or Stardo.
  • Try to get into accounts, data or parts of the Service that aren't yours, get around our limits or security, or scan, scrape or overload the Service.
  • Use Stardo to send spam or advertising, or to collect information about other people.
  • Copy, sell, resell or reverse-engineer the Service, except where the law allows it despite this.
  • Use Nova to make anything harmful, or to try to make it ignore its safety rules.
  • Make fake accounts or invitations to earn Stardust or rewards.

We may remove content that breaks these Terms, and limit, suspend or close accounts that do (see section 13). Use the "Report a problem" button in Account, or write to support@stardo.app, if you see something wrong.

5. Your content

"Your content" is everything you put into Stardo: courses, assignments, notes, files, calendar items, messages to Nova, and so on.

  • It's yours. You keep every right you have in it.
  • What you let us do with it: you give us permission to store, copy, process, show and send your content only as needed to run the Service for you and the people you choose to share it with, and to keep it safe. This permission ends when your content is deleted, apart from copies in backups for the short time described in the Privacy Policy.
  • We don't sell your content, show you ads, or use your content to train AI models.
  • Sharing is your choice. When you share a file or note, or link a parent, the people you share with can see it. When you join a class, its teachers see what the class needs (see section 7). Share links can be passed on by whoever has them, so only share with people you trust, and turn a link off when you're done.
  • You promise that you have the right to upload what you upload, and that it doesn't break these Terms.

6. Nova and AI features

  • Nova's answers are made by AI. They can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check anything important with your teacher, your textbook or another trusted source.
  • Nova isn't a doctor, counsellor, lawyer or emergency service. If you're in danger or need urgent help, contact emergency services (911) or a trusted adult. In Canada you can also reach Kids Help Phone any time at 1-800-668-6868 or by texting 686868.
  • To answer you, Nova sends what it needs (your message, the school work it's about, and the text of a file or photo you give it) to our AI provider. The Privacy Policy explains this.
  • Nova uses Stardust (see section 8). There are daily limits to keep things fair and affordable.
  • Messages that are reported, or that our safety checks flag, may be reviewed by a small number of Stardo staff to keep people safe and make Nova better. Every look is recorded.

7. Parents, teachers and schools

  • Parents see the parts of a student's school work the student allows, such as their timeline and grades. Parents never see a student's files, notes, Nova chats or private items. A parent who manages a younger child's account controls that account's settings and can close it.
  • Teachers can post class work into their students' timelines, and see whether each student has marked class work done and marks they released. They don't see the rest of a student's Stardo.
  • Schools on a licence can see who from the school uses Stardo (name, email, role and last sign-in) and manage the school's accounts and classes.

8. Plans, payments and Stardust

  • Free: Stardo's organiser is free. Some features, and more Nova, need a paid plan.
  • Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) at the price shown when you bought, until you cancel. Prices are shown before you pay, and taxes are added where they apply. If we change a plan's price, we'll tell you before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
  • Free trials turn into a paid plan when they end unless you cancel before. We remind you before a trial ends.
  • Cancelling: for a plan bought on the website, go to Account → See plans → Manage my plan. If you bought in the app, cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds: website purchases can be refunded by us, so write to support@stardo.app. Purchases through the App Store or Google Play are refunded by Apple or Google under their own rules. Nothing here takes away a refund right the law gives you.
  • Stardust is a credit for using Nova inside Stardo. It has no cash value, can't be sold, transferred or swapped for money, and ends when your account is closed. We may change how much Stardust things cost; we'll show the cost before you use it.
  • Invite rewards: when someone joins with your invite link and sets up their account, you can earn Stardust and, where we offer it, credit toward a gift card. Rewards depend on availability and on the rules shown in Account at the time. We may hold back or take away rewards that come from fake accounts, self-invites or anything else that breaks these Terms. Gift cards are provided by a third party, and their own terms apply.
  • Payments on the website are handled by Stripe. In the apps they're handled by Apple or Google. We never see or keep your full card number.

9. Other services

Stardo can connect to services run by others, such as Google (sign-in, Classroom and Calendar), Microsoft (sign-in), calendar links you add, Stripe, Apple and Google Play. Their terms and privacy policies apply to how you use them. We aren't responsible for those services, and if one changes or stops working, the parts of Stardo that use it may stop too. You can disconnect a service at any time.

10. Our part of Stardo

The Service, its software, design, the Stardo name and logo, and Nova belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. We give you a personal, limited, non-transferable permission to use the Service as these Terms allow, which ends when your account is closed. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

11. Changes to Stardo

We're always improving Stardo, so features will be added, changed and sometimes removed. Some features may be marked as early or beta, and may be less reliable. If we take away something important in a paid plan you've paid for, we'll tell you and offer a fair solution, such as a partial refund.

12. Reminders and availability

We work hard to keep Stardo running and to send reminders on time, but we can't promise the Service will always be available, free of errors, or that every reminder or notification will arrive. Phones, email providers and networks can delay or block them. Don't rely on Stardo as your only record of due dates, tests or marks. Your teacher and your school's systems are the official source.

13. Closing your account, and when we close it

  • You can close your account at any time in Account → Close your account, on the website or in the app. Stardo signs you out everywhere, and deletes your account and everything in it for good after 30 days. Until then, write to us if you change your mind. How to do it, and what we keep, is at stardo.app/delete-account.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or the law, puts other people at risk, or that we have to close by law. Unless the law or safety prevents it, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to download your data. If you think we got it wrong, write to support@stardo.app.
  • Sections 5 (the last point), 8 (for amounts owed), 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17 still apply after an account is closed.

14. Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we don't give any promises or warranties beyond what these Terms say, including about results, marks, or the accuracy of Nova's answers. Some places, including Quebec, don't allow some of these exclusions; where that's so, they don't apply to you, and you keep every right your consumer protection law gives you.

15. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost marks, data, profits or opportunities, that come from using or not being able to use the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and CA$50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, gross negligence or intentional harm, or a consumer's rights under laws like Quebec's Consumer Protection Act.

16. If you break these Terms

If you're an adult (or using Stardo for a business or school) and your breach of these Terms or the law causes a claim against us by someone else, you'll cover our reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows. This doesn't apply to consumers where the law forbids it.

17. Law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If we have a disagreement, please write to us first at support@stardo.app; most things can be sorted out quickly. If not, the courts of Ontario will decide, unless the law where you live gives you the right to go to your own local courts, in which case you can.

18. If you got the app from the Apple App Store

These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its content, and has no duty to provide maintenance or support for it. If the app doesn't meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the app's price (if any); Apple has no other warranty duty. Apple isn't responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability, failing to meet a legal requirement, consumer protection, privacy, or intellectual property claims; we are, as far as these Terms say. You confirm you're not in a country under a U.S. government embargo or on a U.S. government list of restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You must also follow the App Store's own terms.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Stardo and the law change. The date at the top always shows the latest version. If a change matters, we'll tell you in Stardo or by email before it takes effect and ask you to agree again; you can close your account if you don't. Small changes (like fixing wording or adding a new feature's rules) take effect when we post them.

20. Everything else

  • These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any plan details shown when you buy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
  • If a court finds part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • If we don't enforce something straight away, we can still enforce it later.
  • You can't transfer your account or these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer them to a company that takes over Stardo, and we'll tell you if we do.
  • The parties have asked that these Terms be written in English. Les parties ont exigé que ces conditions soient rédigées en anglais.
